The Day of the Call...

My phone rang. It was Penn Presby telling me they found my son passed out on 40th and Market. I knew something was very wrong because every question I asked them, they would only answer with very limited info. I then began calling my sons phone. It would ring, but never did he answer. I felt a pain in my stomach as I left my home. Something I felt the same day I got the call about my mother.
I knew… but I was hoping to God he would be gracious and not allow my son to become another statistic in the city of Philadelphia. I just knew God wouldn’t give me this portion. I raised him right. He was loved by sooooo many. Who would want to hurt him?
On April 6, 2026 Savion walked into the store (a smoke shop) at 4002 Market St.

Minutes after entering the store, the man responsible for my son's death, walked into the store with his gun drawn. Words were exchanged and not even a minute later my sons life was taken: one shot to his stomach, and the other to his back -- while he was on the ground. Just like that, this 44 year old man decided my sons life wasn’t worth living. Just like that… Savion was taken from me and his daughter and all of his friends and family that loves him very much.
A business conducting illegal marijuana sales and a man not in control of his emotions took my son's life. The residue (the aftermath) is unbearable. I cry everyday. I sob begging God to wake me up from this nightmare.
I work to keep busy, I eat because I have to. Not because I want to. Most nights I awaken, thinking I hear my son calling out for me. The scars left behind when things like this occur now only left me in ruins, but a whole community is mourning. My entire family is devastated. Savion’s daughter is left fatherless (and she’s only 2). And for what?
Philadelphia… especially you men! Y'all need to get your emotions under control. In the video, you can see Savion attempted to walk away from this man not once but twice. I always taught him “just make it home”. Don’t argue with people. He tried y'all. He really did try to walk off. He was then cornered and shot to death. Savion was my only son.
There’s no replacing life.
